The Moving Wall - First Aid Tent Volunteer Signup
August 31st, 2008We have been just now (they apologized for the lateness) asked by the sponsors of the “Moving Wall” (VFW of Brighton) to help in the first aid tent while it is here in Michigan Sept. 11, 12, 13, 14 - Thurs., Fri., Sat., and Sun., from 8 am to 8 pm except on Sun 8 am to 5 pm. It opens on 9-11 at 8 am with a memorial to the first responders and at noon with opening ceremonies of the Memorial. For more info on the Wall go to: http://www.themovingwall.org/
“The Moving Wall” is the half-size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for more than twenty years. When John Devitt attended the 1982 dedication in Washington, he felt the positive power of “The Wall.” He vowed to share that experience with those who did not have the opportunity to go to Washington.
John, Norris Shears, Gerry Haver, and other Vietnam veteran volunteers built The Moving Wall. It went on display for the first time in Tyler, Texas in October of 1984. Two structures of The Moving Wall now travel the USA from April through November, spending about a week at each site.
The sponsors said they will have EMS standing by but when they get a call they have to leave. Also, some of the sponsor’s staff are first aid and CPR trained so we will have help.
The Moving Wall will be set up in the Mt. Brighton parking lot. It is the first time it has been in Michigan and they are expecting 10, 000 to 15,000 visitors a day. We will have access to our ski patrol AED, O2, etc if needed.
Please sign up below for one or more 3 hour shifts. Wear something that indicates ski patrol and your fanny pack. Limit of two (2) people per shift. Check the list below, and only sign up for shifts that have less than two people.
The list of volunteers will appear below:
